Robert Morris University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Robert Morris University was founded in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy by Andrew Blass and Charles Kissell. Initially, the school offered only basic accounting courses to local business executives. In 1929, the school changed its name to Robert Morris School of Business and began offering a two-year program in business administration. The school was named after Robert Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of the founders of the United States economy.

In 1932, Robert Morris became a four-year college and started offering Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. In 1936, the college added a Master’s degree program in Business Administration and Accounting. During World War II, the college was temporarily closed due to financial difficulties but re-opened shortly after with an expanded curriculum that included courses in computer science and engineering technology. Check Microedu for a list of community colleges in Kentucky.

In 1969, Robert Morris College became an independent institution affiliated with both Duquesne University and La Roche College. This allowed students to earn both undergraduate as well as graduate degrees from either institution without having to transfer credits or leave campus. In 1988, Robert Morris College earned full accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools and changed its name to Robert Morris University to reflect its new status as an independent university offering a wide range of degree programs for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Today, RMU offers more than 90 undergraduate majors as well as master’s degrees in various fields such as business administration, information systems engineering & management sciences, cybersecurity & information assurance, legal studies & public policy management plus more than 20 doctoral programs across five schools – School of Business; School of Communications & Information Systems; School of Education & Social Sciences; School of Engineering Technology Management; School Nursing & Health Sciences – allowing it to serve over 5500 students from all over the world every year.
