Ringling College of Art and Design began in 1931 as the Ringling School of Art and Design, with a mission to provide professional art education for students in Sarasota, Florida. The school was founded by John Ringling, a circus magnate and art collector from the nearby town of Venice. In its early years, the school focused on teaching painting, drawing, design, and illustration. As it grew in size and reputation, the school added new disciplines such as photography, animation, digital media arts, motion picture arts, game art & design and many more.
In 2001 Ringling College became an independent college of art and design with a fully accredited four-year bachelor’s degree program. Today the college offers over 40 majors including Advertising & Graphic Design; Architecture & Interior Design; Illustration; Motion Picture Arts; Visual Studies; Game Art & Design; Photography & Imaging; Fine Arts; Computer Animation & Visual Effects; Digital Media Arts ;and 3D Modeling & Fabrication.
