Rhodes (Rodos) (English: Rhodes, Greek: Ρόδος Ródos) is an island in the Mediterranean Sea that is part of the Dodecanese. The Dodecanese forms a region of Greece (Europe). Rhodes is located off the coast of Turkey. The capital of Rhodes is the homonymous Rhodes (Rhodes City). Rhodes is a green and hilly island that is best known for its old center. Within the impressive city walls of Rhodes you will find many old buildings and you can also visit the many shopping streets, bars, restaurants and the old port. Rhodes Town is also included in the World Heritage List. In addition to visiting Rhodes town, many tourists also come for the rocky coastline with the many sand and pebble beaches and clear blue water. On these beaches you can sunbathe but also practice excellent water sports. The island is also known for the seventh wonder of the world “the Colossus of Rhodes”. This is a 30 meter high bronze statue that stood at the beginning of the harbor of Rhodes.
