Purdue University at Calumet was established in 1946 as Purdue University Calumet Center. It was initially established as a regional campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and offered classes to students in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area. In 1972, the name of the campus was changed to Purdue University at Calumet. At this time, the campus began to offer its own degrees, rather than just offering classes from Purdue University West Lafayette. The first bachelor’s degree program offered at Purdue Calumet was in industrial technology.
