Principia College was founded in 1912 as a private liberal arts college in Elsah, Illinois. The college was founded by Mary Kimball Morgan, an educator and Christian Scientist who wanted to create an educational institution that would provide students with a spiritual education based on the teachings of Christian Science. In its early years, the college had a total enrollment of just over 100 students.
Throughout its history, Principia College has remained committed to providing its students with an education grounded in Christian Science. In addition to spiritual studies, the college also offers courses in traditional academic subjects such as English, mathematics, history and science.
