Post University was founded in 1890 as a private college by Dr. Frederic Post, a respected educator and entrepreneur. Initially, the university was known as Post College and located in Waterbury, Connecticut. It was the first private college in the state of Connecticut to be accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). In addition to its academic excellence, Post College soon became known for its strong commitment to athletics. From its very beginnings, the institution attracted outstanding athletes who competed at both regional and national levels.
In 1995, Post College changed its name to Post University and began offering degree programs online. This step enabled students from all over the world to access an education from a respected institution without leaving their homes. By 2001, the university had become an established leader in online learning with more than 4,000 students enrolled in various degree programs.
