Pontifical College Josephinum was founded in 1888 by the Most Reverend Joseph Jessing. It originated as a seminary for young men who were studying to become priests in the Roman Catholic Church. The school was named after St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. The college was originally located on East Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio and grew steadily over the years until it became one of the largest seminaries in North America. In 1962, it moved to its current location on North High Street and began offering a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Theology.
