Oklahoma State University was founded in 1890 as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College. It began with just over 60 students and six faculty members. Over the years, the college expanded its offerings to include liberal arts and sciences, becoming Oklahoma A&M College in 1957. In 1965, the school was renamed Oklahoma State University to reflect its broadening scope of programs.
In the following years, OSU continued to expand its academic offerings, adding majors such as engineering, pharmacy, business administration, education and architecture. The university also added an honors college and a number of graduate programs. In 1987, OSU opened its first law school in Tulsa, which is now known as the OSU-Tulsa School of Law.
In addition to its academic growth, OSU has enjoyed a long tradition of athletic excellence that began early on with football teams winning seven conference championships between 1915 and 1934. The university’s sports teams have gone on to win numerous championships in various sports over the years including baseball (1966), basketball (1945 & 2004), golf (2006) and wrestling (2005).
Today, OSU is home to more than 25,000 students representing all 50 states and more than 100 countries around the world. It offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and over 150 graduate programs across 10 colleges and schools.
