Ohio Christian University (OCU) was founded in 1948 by a group of pastors and business leaders in Circleville, Ohio. The university was originally named Circleville Bible College, and it was established to provide a Christian education to those seeking higher learning. For the first few decades of its existence, OCU was a small college that focused on providing associate degrees in Bible studies and ministerial training. In the 1970s, the university began to expand its curriculum to include more liberal arts courses, allowing students to earn bachelor’s degrees in areas such as accounting, business administration, psychology, sociology and history. By the 1980s, OCU had become one of the largest private universities in Ohio with an enrollment of more than 3,000 students.

In the 1990s and 2000s, OCU continued to grow both academically and physically. The university opened several new buildings on campus including a library and student center. The school also began offering master’s degrees in counseling psychology, organizational leadership and business administration as well as an online program for working adults who wanted to further their education without leaving their jobs or families. As OCU grew into one of the most respected Christian universities in the Midwest region of the United States, it attracted students from all over the world looking for an education grounded in faith-based values.
