Oglethorpe University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Oglethorpe University was founded in 1835 by the Georgia legislature. It was named after General James Edward Oglethorpe, the founder of the colony of Georgia. The university is located in Brookhaven, Georgia and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It is one of the oldest universities in Georgia, and its original mission was to provide a classical education to young men in the newly formed state.

The first classes began in 1838, with only six students and two faculty members. The campus initially consisted of a single building, known as Old College Hall. Over time, more buildings were added to the campus, including dormitories and a chapel. In 1860, Oglethorpe University became one of the first universities in America to admit women into its undergraduate program. During this time period, Oglethorpe also established a law school and medical school, which both closed during World War I due to financial difficulties. Check Ehuzhou for a list of GMAT test centers in Texas.

By 1920s, Oglethorpe had become an all-women’s college due to declining enrollment during World War I and II. The college welcomed back men into its programs in 1964 when it became coeducational once again. During this time period, more buildings were added to campus including a library and athletic facilities for students to enjoy. In 1989 Oglethorpe opened its doors as an accredited university by SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools). Since then it has grown significantly in size with over 1,000 undergraduate students enrolled each year from across the nation and around the world.
