New England Institute of Art was founded in 1952 as the New England School of Art and Design by a group of prominent Boston business leaders. The school was initially located in the historic Fenway Studios building near Fenway Park, and has since moved to Brookline, Massachusetts. In 1976, the school changed its name to New England College of Art and Design, reflecting its commitment to providing comprehensive art and design education. In 2008, the college merged with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, becoming part of the University System of Massachusetts.
