Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) has a long and storied history. It was founded in 1891 as the Omaha School of Nursing, a small training school for nurses. The school was later renamed the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and then the Omaha School of Religion and Social Work. In 1927, the school moved to its current location on Dodge Street in Omaha, Nebraska and changed its name to Nebraska Methodist College.
NMC quickly established itself as an innovator in healthcare education and began offering degree programs in nursing and other medical fields, such as occupational therapy, radiography, respiratory therapy, medical imaging technology, and physical therapy. In 1993, NMC became one of only two colleges in the state to offer a bachelor’s degree program in nursing. Since then, NMC has continued to expand its academic offering with new degree programs such as health care administration and health information technology. Over the years, NMC has also developed strong partnerships with local hospitals that allow students to gain hands-on experience while they complete their studies.
