National Hispanic University (NHU) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bárbara Cruz and a group of educators. Its purpose was to provide quality education to the Hispanic community, which had been historically underserved. The university began with a few dozen students and has grown to serve over 10,000 students in the United States, Mexico and other countries.

NHU’s mission is to provide access to higher education for those who have been traditionally left out of the system, such as first-generation students and those from low-income backgrounds. To this end, NHU offers flexible scheduling and affordable tuition rates so that all students can access a quality education. NHU also offers an array of programs designed specifically for working adults and those with diverse backgrounds. In addition to traditional degree programs such as business administration, criminal justice and computer science, NHU also offers specialized programs such as Mexican American Studies, Latin American Studies and Spanish Language & Culture. Check LAWSCHOOLSINUSA for a list of law schools in North Dakota.

In 2013, National Hispanic University partnered with Laureate Education Inc., an international network of universities offering online courses in more than 30 countries around the world. This partnership allowed NHU to expand its reach to an even larger student body by offering online courses that are accessible from any location around the world with internet access. The university also provides support services such as career counseling and financial aid counseling so that all students can get the most out of their educational experience at NHU.

Today National Hispanic University is one of the leading institutions providing quality education in both traditional classroom settings as well as online formats for international students worldwide. The university strives to create an inclusive learning environment where all students can gain knowledge about their heritage while simultaneously pursuing their academic goals in order to become successful professionals within their respective fields of study.
