The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) was founded in 1886 by the trustees of the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts as a private, nonsectarian college of art and design. Located in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota, MCAD has been providing quality education in art and design for over 130 years. The college was initially housed in rented rooms in downtown Minneapolis before moving to its current location on Stevens Avenue. Throughout its history, MCAD has strived to provide students with a rigorous education that combines creative exploration with critical thinking and technical training.

In the mid-1900s, MCAD began to expand its curriculum beyond traditional studio art courses. As part of this expansion, the college developed accredited programs in graphic design and illustration as well as a master’s degree program in visual studies. Today, MCAD offers more than 20 undergraduate majors ranging from animation to photography to sculpture. The college also offers numerous minors and certificates for students interested in specialized areas such as digital media or fashion design. In addition to its academic offerings, MCAD also hosts various exhibitions throughout the year which feature work from faculty members, alumni, and other prominent artists from around the world. Check USPRIVATESCHOOLSFINDER for a list of private schools in New Jersey.
