The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) is a private university that was founded in 1823 as the New England Female Medical College. It was the first medical school in the world to offer an education exclusively to women. In 1873, the college changed its name to the Boston Female Medical College and began offering courses in pharmacy, nursing, and dentistry. In 1898, it became affiliated with Tufts University and was renamed the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. During this period, it flourished as one of the leading institutions for pharmacy education in the United States. In 1973, MCPHS achieved university status and began offering additional programs in health sciences.
