Marlboro College was founded in 1946 by a group of progressive educators and philanthropists. Its mission was to provide an innovative, challenging, and democratic education for students who wanted to be engaged citizens in the world. The college opened with just five faculty members and twenty-six students. Over the years, Marlboro College has grown to include over 700 students and more than 50 faculty members. The college is now known as a leader in experiential education with its emphasis on self-directed learning, off-campus study programs, and internships. With its small student-faculty ratio of 10:1, Marlboro College provides a close-knit academic community that encourages collaboration between students and faculty.
