Marian University was founded in 1936 by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes as Marian College. At the time, the college was an all-women’s school that offered two year programs in liberal arts and nursing. In 1945, Marian College was granted accreditation and began offering four-year bachelor’s degree programs in Arts, Sciences, Nursing and the newly created Teacher Education program.
In 1968, Marian College became a co-educational institution and began offering graduate degree programs in Education, Business Administration and Human Services. In 2005, Marian College officially became a university when it was granted permission to offer its first doctoral program in Physical Therapy. Since then, Marian University has continued to expand its academic offerings to include more than 65 undergraduate majors and minors as well as 20 graduate degrees.
