Maine Travel Guide

Overview

Things rarely change in the state of Maine: forests and lakes still make up 90% of the landscape, just as they did when Leif Ericson and his Vikings first set foot on land here. The 8,530km coastline from Kittery to Lubec is still a stronghold of two old traditions: fishing and shipbuilding. Maine’s landscape was formed by massive glacial activity during the Ice Age, which carved bays, inlets and harbors into the mainland, creating more than 2,000 rocky islands. Lobsters abound and 64 lighthouses stand guard over the breathtakingly beautiful rocky coastline from Maine.
