Maine Maritime Academy was founded in 1941 as the Maine Nautical School. It was established by the state of Maine to provide maritime education and training for students interested in a career in the marine industry. The school’s first classes were held on a former Navy base in Castine, Maine with three faculty members and twenty-three students.
