Loyola University Maryland was founded in 1852 by John Early, a Jesuit priest and former president of Georgetown University. It was originally known as Loyola College in Maryland, and its first classes were held at the old Saint Ignatius Church on Calvert Street in Baltimore. The school moved to its current location on Charles Street in 1868, where it has stayed since. Over the years, the school has grown to become one of the top universities in the country. It now offers over 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across several disciplines.
