Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center was established in 1931 as the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. Located on the campus of Confederate Memorial Medical Center, the school provided medical education to residents of northern Louisiana and surrounding states. In 1965, the school became part of the Louisiana State University System and was renamed Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. The new Health Sciences Center was composed of four schools: Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, and Graduate Studies.

In 1971, a fifth school was added to the center—the School of Dentistry—adding dental education to its already comprehensive health care offerings. By 1975, LSUHSC had expanded to include additional campuses in New Orleans and Baton Rouge; each campus offered a blend of academic and clinical programs tailored to their respective communities. In addition to expanding its physical presence throughout the state, LSUHSC has also continued its commitment to providing quality health care services through research initiatives and outreach programs aimed at improving public health. As part of this mission, it has established partnerships with other institutions such as Tulane University and Xavier University. Today, LSUHSC is one of the largest academic medical centers in the country with six schools offering degrees ranging from doctoral-level study in medicine and dentistry to bachelor’s degrees in allied health professions. Check top-engineering-schools for a list of engineering schools in Colorado.
