Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) was founded in 1959, when the Louisiana State Legislature voted to merge three private institutions—Alexandria Junior College, Louisiana State Normal College, and Louisiana Technical Institute. The new university was launched with a mission to provide accessible higher education opportunities to all students within central Louisiana.
