La Sierra University was founded in 1922 as the La Sierra Academy by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The school was established to provide a quality education to students in the Riverside area. Initially, the school offered two-year college programs, but quickly expanded its offerings and became a four-year institution in 1952.
