Keuka College was founded in 1890 by Reverend Luther H. Gulick and his wife, Mary. It was originally named Keuka Institute, and its mission was to prepare students for missionary service around the world. The college’s first building, Gulick Hall, was constructed in 1892 and opened with just ten students. Over the next two decades, the college grew substantially and added more buildings to its campus. In 1909, Keuka Institute changed its name to Keuka College and became a four-year liberal arts college offering degree programs in education, business administration, chemistry, biology, physical education, and more. By the 1920s, enrollment had grown to over 500 students from across the United States and Canada. In 1925, the college moved from its original location in Penn Yan to a new campus on Keuka Lake’s east side. Since then, it has continued to expand both academically and physically as new programs have been added over the years including nursing (1956), occupational therapy (1977), physician assistant studies (2000), clinical mental health counseling (2013), sport management (2018), among others. Today, Keuka College is home to over 1,700 students from all 50 states and several countries around the world studying a wide variety of subjects on its beautiful campus overlooking Keuka Lake.
