Kennesaw State University (KSU) was founded in 1963 as Kennesaw Junior College. It was the first public two-year college in the state of Georgia. The school quickly gained a reputation for excellence and grew to become one of the largest two-year colleges in the nation. In 1976, it was renamed Kennesaw College and began offering four-year degrees. In 1996, Kennesaw College merged with Southern Polytechnic State University to form Kennesaw State University, a public university system with multiple campuses throughout Georgia.
