Overview
In the geographic center of the USA lies Kansas, a state where life is dominated by agriculture. Cereals, cattle and buffalo can be found on vast expanses of farmland and grassland. Even freeway signs say, “Every Kansas farmer feeds 75 people—and you!”. Families in wagons have roamed Kansas, heading west along the Oregon and Santa Fe trails to find land for new farms, and cowboys drove large herds of longhorn cattle north along the Chisholm Trail to the railway lines. Even today in Kansas one can find many remnants of the “Old West” past, but also numerous leisure centers, reservoirs and rivers are used for active recreation. Kansas was significantly involved in the development of civil aviation. Several hundred thousand aircraft have been built here since 1899.
