Judson University was founded in 1963 as Judson College, a Christian liberal arts college. The school was established by the Northern Baptist Convention in response to a need for higher education for students of faith in the Rockford area. The college’s first president was Dr. Richard E. Raines, who oversaw the school’s initial growth from an enrollment of just 45 students to more than 500 by 1969. In 2007, Judson College officially changed its name to Judson University to better reflect its commitment to providing an excellent educational experience for students of all backgrounds and faiths.
In the years since its founding, Judson has expanded both its academic offerings and its campus facilities. Today, the university offers more than 70 degree programs across three colleges: Arts & Sciences, Professional Studies, and Architecture & Design. Additionally, Judson has added several new buildings including a state-of-the-art library and student center as well as renovated existing structures such as the Science Center and Burpee Student Center.
