Judson College Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Judson College is a private liberal arts college located in Marion, Alabama. It was established in 1838 as the first college in Alabama to accept female students. It is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school was initially founded as Judson Female Institute by Amelia Gayle Gorgas, who would later become the first woman to serve as a state librarian. The school was named after Ann Hasseltine Judson, an American Baptist missionary who served in Burma for over 20 years before her death in 1826.

During the Civil War, Judson College was closed for several years due to financial losses incurred by the war. In 1870, it reopened as a co-educational institution and began offering courses in business, music, art, and science. In 1925, it became an all-women’s college again and continued to expand its academic offerings over time with new majors such as English literature, history, philosophy and political science being added during this period. The college also established a library science program in 1929 and opened its doors to African-American students for the first time in 1956. During the 1960s and 1970s Judson College underwent significant changes including becoming accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1966 and introducing its first graduate program – a Master of Arts degree – in 1969. In 2012, Judson College celebrated its 175th anniversary as one of Alabama’s oldest institutions of higher learning. Check LAWSCHOOLSINUSA for a list of law schools in Hawaii.
