John Brown University (JBU) was founded in 1919 by John E. Brown and his wife, Martha. The Browns were motivated by their Christian faith to establish a college that would prepare students for lives of service and leadership in the world. JBU began as a two-year Bible institute, and over the years has grown into a comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate programs. The university is supported by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and is affiliated with the Baptist Missionary Association of America.
Today, JBU offers more than 40 majors, minors and pre-professional programs. It also offers master’s degrees in business administration, education, counseling psychology, ministry studies, marriage and family therapy and more. Students can also choose from a variety of extracurricular activities such as intramural sports, student organizations and mission trips. JBU strives to create an environment where students can grow spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically while they pursue their educational goals. The university has been recognized for its commitment to diversity among its faculty, staff and student body. In addition to its academic offerings, JBU has an active campus life with many events throughout the year such as concerts, lectures and sporting events.
