Inter American University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon was founded in 1912 by Dr. Ramón Baldorioty de Castro and is the oldest private university in Puerto Rico. It was initially called the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon and changed to its current name in 1962. The campus is located on the west side of Bayamon, a municipality located in the north central region of Puerto Rico.
