Inter American University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo was established in 1912 as the Inter American College of Arecibo. It began as a small private institution, founded by Don Antonio R. Barceló, a prominent businessman and philanthropist from Arecibo. The college initially offered courses in elementary, secondary and professional education. In 1962, the college was renamed Inter American University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo and it became a public institution offering associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in various fields. Over the years, the university has expanded its academic offerings to include graduate programs such as master’s degrees in Business Administration (MBA), Education (MEd), Nursing (MSN) and Social Work (MSW). It also offers doctoral programs in Educational Leadership (EdD) and Psychology (PsyD).
