Holy Family University (HFU) was founded in 1954 as Holy Family College by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. It was established to provide a quality education for women in the Philadelphia area. Initially, the college offered associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in business, health sciences, and liberal arts. Over time, the school expanded its offerings to include master’s degrees in various disciplines. In 1997, the school became an accredited university and changed its name to Holy Family University. The university has since grown significantly and currently offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across five schools: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Health Sciences, Nursing & Allied Health Professions, and Social & Behavioral Sciences.
In addition to expanding its academic offerings, HFU has also expanded its campus over the years. In 2003, it opened a new athletic center which houses a gymnasium for basketball and volleyball games as well as an Olympic-sized swimming pool with diving boards. In 2004, it opened a student center which includes a café and lounge area. The most recent addition to campus is a new residence hall which opened in 2009 with room for 200 students. This expansion has made HFU more attractive to prospective students who are looking for an institution with modern facilities and ample student amenities.
