Hellenic College was founded in 1937 by a group of Greek Orthodox laymen. The college was established as a school of higher learning to provide education in the Orthodox Christian faith and Greek culture. Over the years, the school has grown from its original location in Brookline, Massachusetts to include two additional campuses in Boston and one in Rhode Island. The college offers undergraduate degree programs in theology, philosophy, and education as well as a master’s program in theology. It has also developed a number of study abroad programs that allow students to explore their faith and culture through educational trips to Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and other countries with significant Greek Orthodox populations. Hellenic College is also home to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology which is an accredited theological school offering master’s degrees and doctorates in theology. In addition to providing academic programs for its students, Hellenic College seeks to serve the greater community by hosting lectures on topics related to faith and culture as well as providing services such as language classes for immigrants and refugees. Through these initiatives, Hellenic College seeks to foster understanding between different cultures while educating its students on the importance of preserving their own traditions.
