Hawaii Pacific University was founded in 1965 as Hawaii Pacific College. Located in the heart of Honolulu, it was the first and only four-year college in the state of Hawaii. The college was initially established to provide higher education opportunities to students from all over the world, including those from the Hawaiian Islands. In 1974, Hawaii Pacific College was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, becoming a university and changing its name to Hawaii Pacific University.

Since then, HPU has become one of the most diverse universities in the United States and has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Colleges for eight consecutive years. It is home to a wide range of academic programs, offering degrees in business, nursing, computer science and engineering, among other disciplines.
