Hartwick College Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Hartwick College was founded in 1797 in the beautiful town of Hartwick, New York. It was originally named Hartwick Seminary and was founded by John Christopher Hartwick, a Lutheran minister from Germany. The school initially provided education to young men in the areas of theology, classical languages, and sciences. In 1816, it became known as Hartwick Seminary and Academy and began to provide education to both men and women. In 1848, it became a college and changed its name to Hartwick College.

The college experienced significant growth over the next few decades. It began offering more degree programs such as engineering and physical science; expanded its campus with buildings such as the chapel, library building, science building, gymnasium; added several new dormitories; and increased its enrollment from approximately 100 students in 1847 to over 1,000 by the turn of the 20th century. During this time period, the college also established a strong reputation for its academics which attracted more students from across the country.

In addition to its academic reputation, Hartwick College has also been known for being an active participant in community service projects throughout its history. In early years of the 20th century students would often travel into nearby towns during their breaks from classes to help with local projects such as building roads or bridges or helping with agricultural work. More recently, students have dedicated their time to volunteering at local schools or working on community-based initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity or environmental clean-up efforts. Check aviationopedia for more universities.
