Grand Valley State University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) was founded in 1960 as Grand Valley State College. The college was the result of the merging of two separate entities: the Grand Rapids Junior College and the Grand Rapids School of Business. The college opened its doors to students in 1963, with an enrollment of just over 200 students. GVSU initially offered only upper-division classes, with students transferring from other institutions to complete their degrees at GVSU.

In 1970, Grand Valley State College became a four-year institution and changed its name to Grand Valley State University. This change marked a significant milestone for the university as it began offering bachelor’s degrees for the first time. During this period, GVSU established several new academic programs such as business administration and engineering science.

Throughout its history, GVSU has continued to grow and expand its academic offerings, adding more than 50 undergraduate degree programs and nearly 30 graduate programs since 1975. In addition to adding new degree programs, GVSU has also opened several satellite campuses throughout Michigan including one in Muskegon, Traverse City and Holland. Today, GVSU is home to more than 25,000 students from all over the world who are pursuing their educational goals at one of Michigan’s most respected universities.
