Glenville State College has a long and rich history, beginning in 1872 when it was founded as the West Virginia Normal School. The school was established to provide teacher training and education to the people of West Virginia. In 1917, the school’s name was changed to Glenville State Teachers College, and its curriculum expanded to include other fields of study. In 1929, the college became a four-year college and began offering bachelor’s degrees in teacher education and liberal arts. In 1943, the college began offering master’s degrees in education and other areas. Through the 1950s and 60s, the college continued to expand its offerings, adding additional degree programs in areas such as business administration, social work, nursing and more. The name of the institution was changed again in 1993 to Glenville State College. Since then, GSC has continued to expand its academic offerings while remaining dedicated to providing quality education at an affordable cost. Today Glenville State College offers over 50 undergraduate programs as well as several master’s programs across a variety of disciplines including business administration, computer science, criminal justice and more.
