Gettysburg College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1832 as the Pennsylvania College by Samuel Simon Schmucker, a Lutheran minister and a leader of the Reformed tradition of Protestantism. In 1837, the college changed its name to Gettysburg College in honor of the Battle of Gettysburg which had taken place nearby just four years earlier. The college was accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 1921, and became coeducational in 1922.
In recent years, Gettysburg College has continued to expand its curriculum and facilities, with an emphasis on providing students with a well-rounded education. In 2017, it opened its new Center for Career Engagement and Experiential Learning (CEEL) to help students gain practical experience through internships and other opportunities.
