Fontbonne University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Fontbonne University was founded in 1923 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, a Catholic religious order. The university was established with the mission of providing a quality education to young women in the St. Louis area. Originally, Fontbonne was known as St. Joseph’s Academy, and classes were held in a building located on Lindell Boulevard. Over time, the school’s focus shifted from educating only young women to offering undergraduate and graduate programs for both men and women. This shift allowed Fontbonne to become a fully-accredited university in 1968, which allowed them to offer bachelor’s degrees for the first time.

In 1972, Fontbonne opened its first residence hall and began offering evening courses for working adults. As enrollment continued to grow, so did the need for more facilities and services on campus; this led to construction of a new library in 1981 and an academic center in 1990 that housed classrooms and faculty offices. In addition, Fontbonne established several successful partnerships with local organizations such as Mercy Health Services and St. Louis University Medical Center that provided students with valuable internship opportunities throughout their studies at Fontbonne.

To better meet changing needs of students, Fontbonne launched several new degree programs over the years including an MBA program in 1996 and an online RN-to-BSN program in 2010 that allowed nurses to complete their bachelor’s degrees without having to attend classes on campus. Today, Fontbonne continues its commitment to providing quality education by offering over 40 undergraduate majors as well as several graduate degrees across four colleges: College of Arts & Sciences; School of Education; School of Business & Professional Studies; and School of Nursing & Health Professions. Check USPRIVATESCHOOLSFINDER.COM for a list of private schools in Vermont by county.
