Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) has a long and rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. It began as the Duval County School Board in 1883, which was established to provide educational opportunities for the children of Duval County. In 1909, the school board changed its name to the Junior College of Jacksonville, making it one of the first junior colleges in Florida. The college continued to grow and evolve over the years and by 1966 it had become a four-year college known as Florida Junior College (FJC). In 1971, FJC merged with the University of North Florida and was renamed Florida State Community College at Jacksonville. Finally, in 2009 FSCJ became an independent state college with its current name.

Since gaining independence in 2009, FSCJ has continued to expand its academic offerings and now offers more than 130 degree and certificate programs in areas such as business, healthcare, public safety, information technology and education. The college also provides numerous services such as tutoring centers, counseling centers, career services and disability services for students. Additionally, FSCJ offers students a variety of extracurricular activities including clubs, student organizations and athletic teams.
