Eastern New Mexico University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) was founded in 1934 as the Eastern New Mexico Teacher’s College. It was created to provide education and training for teachers in the region. The school was renamed in 1940 to Eastern New Mexico College of Education and Arts and Sciences, and then again in 1949 to Eastern New Mexico University of Portales. In 1965, ENMU expanded its academic offerings to include a four-year college of business administration. This allowed students to pursue degrees in business-related fields such as accounting, finance, management, marketing, and economics.

Since then, ENMU has grown into a comprehensive university offering over 80 undergraduate programs and more than 30 graduate degrees. It is divided into four colleges: Arts & Sciences; Business; Education; and Health & Social Services. ENMU offers a variety of extracurricular activities for students such as student government organizations, intramural sports leagues, honor societies, fraternities and sororities, theatrical productions, music groups, art exhibits and more. The university also provides research opportunities through its Center for Research & Economic Development (CRED). Through CRED’s initiatives such as the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program or the Rural Technology Initiative (RTI), ENMU faculty members have been able to conduct research on how technology can be used to improve rural areas economically or socially. Additionally, students are able to participate in study abroad programs that allow them to experience different cultures while learning about global issues firsthand.
