East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) was founded in 1912 by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Originally named the College of Marshall, it was established to provide a Christian education to both men and women. The school opened its doors in September of that year with an enrollment of thirty-four students.
The early years of the college were very modest, but with determination and hard work, the college slowly grew. By 1930, East Texas Baptist University had become the largest college in East Texas with an enrollment of more than 300 students. In addition to expanding its student body, ETBU also expanded its physical facilities during this time period. A new library building was added in 1937 followed by a new science building in 1940. In 1946, a new gymnasium and auditorium were completed as part of a major construction project on campus.
In 1969, ETBU began offering graduate programs in Education and Business Administration and has since added several other master’s level programs including Christian Ministry, Counseling Psychology, Human Resources Management and Nursing Administration. The university continues to offer traditional undergraduate degree programs as well as online courses for those who are unable to attend classes on campus due to distance or other commitments. Today, ETBU is one of the largest private universities in Texas with an enrollment of over 3200 students from all over the world. See topschoolsintheusa for LSAT test dates and centers in Alabama.
