East Central University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

East Central University (ECU) was founded in 1909 as East Central State Normal School. It was established to train teachers and promote the development of education in southeastern Oklahoma. The school was originally located on a 40-acre campus in Ada, Oklahoma. As enrollment grew, more space was needed and the school moved to its current location in 1917. At this time, the name of the school changed to East Central State Teachers College, reflecting its mission to provide teacher training.

In 1939, East Central State Teachers College became East Central State College and began offering bachelor’s degrees in addition to teacher training programs. With the introduction of new degree programs in fields such as business, psychology and engineering, enrollment skyrocketed and the school experienced unprecedented growth. In 1974, the college changed its name once again to East Central University (ECU). This marked a new era for ECU as it began offering graduate degrees for the first time and expanded its academic offerings even further with an Honors Program and additional research opportunities for students. Today, ECU offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across five colleges: Education & Psychology; Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; Health & Human Services; and Graduate Studies.
