Dominican University, established in 1901, is a private Roman Catholic university located in River Forest, Illinois. It is the only Catholic university in the state and one of the few universities to offer a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum for students of all backgrounds. The university was founded by the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters who wanted to provide an education that combined both religious and academic studies. In its earliest days, Dominican University was known as St. Clara College and was located in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. The college moved to River Forest in 1922 and changed its name to Rosary College before finally settling on Dominican University of River Forest in 1997.
Since then, Dominican University has grown significantly in size and scope. Today it offers more than 50 undergraduate majors ranging from business administration to music therapy as well as several graduate programs including Doctoral degrees in Education Leadership and Nursing Practice. The university also offers an Honors Program which provides students with unique educational opportunities such as internships, study abroad programs and research fellowships. Additionally, Dominican University has a strong commitment to service learning which encourages students to become involved with local community organizations while earning credit towards their degree requirements.
