It was the first institution of higher education in the state of Utah to be supported by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). In 1923, it was renamed Dixie Junior College, and in 1933, it became Dixie College. In 2000, Dixie College officially became Dixie State College of Utah after being granted university status by the state legislature.
