Dallas Baptist University was founded in 1898 as Decatur Baptist College. The college was established by the local Baptist church and had only a few dozen students. It was originally a two-year college that offered courses in Bible, literature, and the sciences. In 1965, the college was relocated to Dallas, where it became known as Dallas Baptist University. Since then, DBU has grown significantly. In 1971, the university added its first doctoral program in educational leadership. Today, DBU offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs to over 5,000 students each year.
