Daemen College was founded in 1947 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity as a Catholic liberal arts college. The college was originally named Rosary Hill College, and its first classes were held at Rosary Hill Home in Buffalo, New York. In 1973, the name of the college was changed to Daemen College in honor of Father Nelson H. Daemen, who had served as an administrator at Rosary Hill Home since its founding in 1922.
Throughout its history, Daemen has evolved from a small liberal arts college to a comprehensive university offering over 40 academic programs. In 2002, it became one of the first colleges in New York State to offer online degree programs. The college also boasts numerous international partnerships with universities around the world and has developed innovative programs like the 3+2 Engineering Program with Clarkson University and the Physician Assistant Program with D’Youville College.
Daemen has also earned recognition for their commitment to service learning opportunities for students, including volunteer activities such as Habitat for Humanity and work with local nonprofits. Additionally, they have created several impressive facilities on campus such as the Research & Information Commons which opened in 2011 and houses an extensive library collection along with computer labs and other resources for students’ academic success.
