Concordia University Texas, formerly known as Concordia Lutheran College, was founded in 1926 in Austin, Texas. It was the first college to be affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Texas and one of the first colleges to be established by a religious denomination in the state. The college grew rapidly over its first few years of operation and soon became one of the premier higher education institutions in Central Texas. In 1956, Concordia was granted accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which made it eligible for federal student aid programs. This enabled Concordia to expand its academic offerings and student body even further. In 1978, the college changed its name from Concordia Lutheran College to Concordia University Texas to reflect its growing size and scope. For over 90 years, Concordia has continued to be a leader in higher education in Central Texas, offering degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels that prepare students for success after graduation. The university’s mission is to provide an education characterized by academic excellence rooted in Christian faith and values that prepares students for lives of service and leadership throughout their communities.
