Concordia University Chicago was founded in 1864 by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. It was originally known as the Concordia Theological Seminary and was located in Springfield, Illinois. In 1881, the seminary moved to its current location in River Forest, Illinois and changed its name to Concordia College. In 1974, Concordia College became a university and took on its current name of Concordia University Chicago.

Over the course of its long history, Concordia University Chicago has grown from a small theological seminary to a large university with over 5,000 students. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 50 programs of study including business administration, education, nursing, theology and music. Additionally, the university has built strong relationships with local schools and organizations to create meaningful community partnerships that serve both sides.
