Concordia University at St. Paul was established in 1893 by the Lutheran Minnesota Conference as a small school for training teachers. It was originally known as Concordia College and had only 25 students enrolled. In 1905, the college began offering a four-year degree program and was renamed Concordia Teachers College. The college continued to grow in size and in 1925 it was renamed Concordia Junior College. In 1935, the college became a fully accredited four-year college and changed its name to Concordia Senior College. By 1945, the college had grown to over 500 students and had become an important part of the community of St. Paul, Minnesota.
In 1965, Concordia Senior College merged with Lutheran Bible Institute and officially changed its name to Concordia University at St. Paul (CSP). The university was then able to offer more courses than ever before, including programs in business administration, education, theology, music, communication arts and sciences and nursing. Since then CSP has become one of the premier private universities in Minnesota with over 5500 students enrolled across its five colleges: Arts & Sciences; Business; Education; Health & Human Services; and Theology & Ministry. CSP is also home to several research centers dedicated to advancing knowledge in areas such as health care policy, early childhood development, sustainability science and urban studies.
